It’s election season for the California Dressage Society, with state and chapter elections for new board members.

Chapter Board: Three of the six chapter board members are elected each year, and each board member serves a two-year term. This “staggered term” structure provides fresh ideas and expertise, as well as retaining experience and continuity. Returning board members for 2011 will be Andrea Chenu, Jennifer Shearer and Suzanne Vuko; the other three board positions are up for election.

Nominations are now open, and members of the SFP chapter may nominate themselves and/or another chapter member. Nominees must submit a candidate’s statement of 100 to 200 words; this statement is the candidate’s opportunity to tell our voting members about their background, qualifications, and goals for the chapter.

Voting Schedule:

  • Oct 12: Candidate statements due
  • Oct 26: Voting opens
  • Nov 5: Voting closes
  • Nov 11: Election results announced at chapter meeting

Further nomination and voting information will be emailed to you in subsequent issues of Centerline Online.

State Board:
You have received your CDS election information via email, with a PIN number mailed to you by snail mail. Voting must be done by Thursday, September 30, 2010 until 11:45 pm, PDT.

Thanks to all who participated in our Annual Show! Ride times will be posted soon.

I am home and it was fantastic! Thank you very much to CDS and  the SFP Chapter for allowing me this great opportunity. Some years ago, I watched Debbie McDonald and Brentina give their exhibition freestyle at DG Bar. It was the most light, lovely and harmonious ride I had ever seen, and I have held that image in my mind as something to strive for with my horse partners (mares also). So I was completely excited to be told I had won the drawing for the Adult Amateur Clinic this year. Then followed panic – would I be up for the challenge? [Read More…]

One-Star Show at Webb

June 7, 2010

should I just ride over them? Oh, Deer!!!
With great weather, terrific turnout, and only a couple of unpredictable events, our one-star show last weekend was a great success! Kudos to the very brave Rose Gold and Bailey who waited patiently while the interlopers were excused from the ring.

On Saturday, March 20, at EquiSport Therapy & Rehabilitation Center in Woodside, Dr. Wayne Browning and Dr. Philip Bellamy hosted an informative equine health lecture and tour.

Dr. Browning gave chapter members a comprehensive tour of the facility, including a demonstration of the AquaPacer underwater treadmill, and covered advanced treatment techniques for common sport horse injuries.

Dr. Bellamy addressed the holistic therapies he practices, and demonstrated equine acupuncture methods.

Chapter members discovered the wealth of treatment, therapy, and rehabilitation options now available locally. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Browning and Dr. Bellamy for a thorough, educational, and enlightening tour.

Press Release
New York – March 18, 2010 – As Courtney King-Dye, a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team, remains in a coma in a Florida hospital after suffering a serious head injury earlier this month, an award winning New York fashion designer and two California equine photographers hope that sales of a t-shirt honoring Courtney will help with the mounting expenses associated with her medical care.

The black-on-white silkscreened t-shirt for women and men, designed by indie designer and horse lover Elektra, features a photograph of Courtney by nationally recognized equine photographer Terri Miller and the words “ComeBackCourt,” a slogan created by Courtney’s husband, Jason Dye. It is available at http://www.etsy.com/shop/coup?section_id=6883992 for $30, and 100% of the profits will go to a fund organized to help pay Courtney’s medical expenses. Equine photographer and amateur dressage competitor Sheryl L. Ross originated the project and brought Elektra and Miller together for the effort.

For ongoing updates about Courtney’s condition from her husband, Jason Dye, visit her website at http://www.courtneykingdressage.com.

Many of you knew Bobby Keville as a longtime CDS State Board Member from the Sonoma Chapter, as well as the 2009 Volunteer of the Year, Technical Delegate at many shows, and dressage supporter who organized the Northern Adult Amateur Clinic, among many other activities. Bobby passed away February 27, 2010, leaving the world a better place for having had her generousity and kindness in it. The Keville Family ask that in lieu of flowers donations can either be sent to Bobby Keville Amateur Riding Scholarship Fund c/o any Exchange Bank or Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St. Petaluma, CA 94952.
