This year we’re getting started on the 2012 calendar early enough that it will be available in time for holiday gift-giving. And, because 2012 is the chapter’s 45th anniversary, this year will be an even more meaningful time to feature your horse in the chapter’s calendar.

Chapter members can sponsor a month in the calendar by sending their photo, 100 words of copy for the caption (name of horse, any special info, etc.) and a donation check for $50.00 made out to SFP-CDS, to: Nan Meek/SFP Calendar, PO Box 370278, Montara, CA 94037. Donations will contribute to SFP education and competition activities.

Photo, copy and check are due no later than Oct. 12, and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please indicate your first, second and third choice of months if you have a preference. Photos should be glossy prints if snail-mailed; if emailed, send photos as 300 dpi in .jpg or pdf format to nanmeek@sbcglobal.net.

Some chapter members have asked if dogs can be included in the calendar, and the answer is yes – what would our barns be like without them? Other ideas could include: trainer’s photo sponsored by students or clients; stallion photo sponsored by fans; historic chapter photo sponsored by chapter member … creativity is encouraged!

Alanna Mitchell has won the San Francisco Peninsula Chapter’s volunteer award, a $150 competition grant, for riders attending the CDS Jr/YR Championship at Rancho Murieta, September 23-25, 2011. Fifteen-year-old Alanna keeps her horse, Montague, at Webb Ranch and trains with Summer Hensley. Alanna, along with Webb junior riders Arianna Barzman-Grennan, Julia Melmon and Kendra Mitchell, were a huge help with cleaning and packing up after the chapter’s Annual Show in July!

The next Tracey Lert clinic will be at Woodmyst on Saturday, Ocotober 1.

Tracey Lert is a nationally known dressage competitor, trainer, instructor and “S” dressage judge. She is a USDF Certified Instructor through Fourth Level and a member of the USDF “L” faculty, which teaches and trains judges.

Tracey has earned her USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold rider medals on horses she has trained, and has earned her Silver and Gold Freestyle Bars. She has been on the USET long list and the developing horse and rider list with several horses.

SHOW RESULTS

June 5 Ride Times

ALL competitors will be required to sign a form testifying to their horse’s health, and as recommended, outside horses will be restricted to their trailer area, warm-up and show arenas, and excluded from stabling and boarding areas.

Signage will remind all competitors of biosecurity best practices such as no sharing of towels, grooming equipment, and feed or water buckets; and no touching of horses other than your own.

A recent disease outbreak of Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy (EHV-1) has been traced to horses who attended the National Cutting Horse Associations’ Western National Championships in Ogden, Utah on April 30 – May 8, 2011. California horses who participated in this event may have been exposed to this EHV-1 virus. We thank them for posting this information and encourage all SFP members to consult their veterinarian about the management of their horse’s health.

Some roles we always need to fill for each show are Scribes, Test Scorers, Ring Stewards, Score Sheet Runners, Volunteer Hospitality, Show Setup, and Cleanup Crew. If working on the day of a show isn’t going to fit your schedule, there are other opportunities to help with show preparation or temporary Committee roles to put together a new clinic, identify show venues, etc.

Jenny Fichmann is the lucky winner of the SFP chapter drawing to participate in the CDS Northern California Adult Amateur Clinic with Donna Richardson. The clinic will be held May 20-22, 2011, at Santa Rosa Equestrian Center.

All chapter members are encouraged to attend as auditors – this is a great learning opportunity for everyone!
